This book is about a young boy who is a clock keeper at a train station in Paris. Hugo always has a little notebook with a drawing of an automaton that was started by his father, but was finished by Hugo. Hugo always gets into trouble for stealing things, but most of the time he gets away with it. My favorite character is Hugo because he is adventurous and brave. Hugo is a very skilled mechanic. He is good at fending for his life at the train station.
While flipping through a book at the train station, Hugo finds that one of his dad’s favorite movies was made by Georges Melies (his friend Isabelle’s godfather), who works at the train station. Read this book to find out what happens when the train inspector catches Hugo and the role toymaker Melies plays.
You should read this book if you are into adventure and hints of mystery. It is an excellent story if you like lots of pictures to help tell the tale. The drawings look as if they are real. In my opinion Brian Selznick is one of the best writers in the world!
If you want to read something that won’t take too long, then you should read this book. It may seem long but 284 pages are full of pictures. I rate this book *****.
